Cashless payment through FASTag at Toll Plazas on National Highways

In order to promote cashless payment through FASTag at Toll Plazas on National Highways, NHAI has decided to provide FASTag to existing monthly pass holders by absorbing the one-time cost of their FASTags.

In another important decision, a dedicated FASTag lane will be ensured at 48 toll plazas on Delhi – Mumbai, Mumbai-Chennai Corridors wef 20.06.2016.  To facilitate purchase of FASTag by road users, Points of Sale (POS) on 23 Toll Plazas (list enclosed) are available on these corridors.  Out of these, 19 POS are already working and 4 will be added within a week.  Various events/ activities viz. awareness drive on benefits of FASTag, such as identification of bulk customers through transport/truckers associations etc. will be organized on these two corridors.  This will promote efficient and economical movement of passenger and commercial traffic on these high traffic density corridors.

It may be recalled that NHAI has rolled out cashless payment mechanism (FASTag) on toll plazas on National Highways.  FASTag offers near non-stop movement of vehicles through toll plazas and convenience of cashless payments of toll fee with nationwide inter operable Electronic Toll Collection Services.  FASTag is operational on more than 325 toll plazas on National Highways across the country.

FASTag has a onetime fee of Rs. 200 and is affixed on the wind screen of the vehicle.  It employs RFID technology for making toll payments directly from the pre-paid account linked to it.  FASTags are available on sale from selected toll plazas on National Highways and designated branches of participating banks w.e.f. 25.04.2016 .   These can be recharged by making payments through cheque or online through credit card/debit card/NEFT/RTGS or through net-banking.   The minimum recharge amount is Rs.100 and can be up to Rs.1.00 lac in the multiples of Rs 100.  FASTag users shall get SMS alerts for all their toll transactions, low balance etc.

Government has allowed NHAI to give 10% cash back incentive on toll payments in financial year 2016-17 for FASTag users.  The cash back amount for a particular month is credited back to the FASTag account at the beginning of the next month.

Use of FASTag shall increase user convenience from payments without stops at toll plazas thus saving on time, money and fuel.  The online payments shall improve transparency of toll transactions and reduce revenue leakages, thus, improving overall efficiency and commercial competitiveness.

Details of participating banks, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for FASTag users, Point of Sale (POS) locations and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are available on the website of NHAI and IHMCL and

NHAI is committed to provide safe, smooth and seamless journey to commuters on National Highways.  Implementation of FASTag is one step that will realize this endeavor.
