National Mission to encourage Pilgrimage Tourism

The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture & Tourism Shri Shripad Yesso Naik has said that augmentation of infrastructure is the key to the expansion of tourism in the country. The development of infrastructure including pilgrimage centres in the country is primarily the responsibility of the respective State Government/Union Territory (UT) Administration. The Ministry of Tourism (MOT) provides Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to various State Governments/Union Territory Administration for various tourism projects prioritized every year in consultation with them subject to availability of funds, inter-se priority and adherence to the scheme guidelines.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today Shri Naik said, with a view to beautify and improve the amenities and infrastructure at pilgrimage centres of all faith, a National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) has been announced and an amount of Rs.100 crore has been proposed in the Annual Budget 2014-15 for this purpose.
